The following text contains a quest document, written in 2024. A Side Quest for the fishing village of Vengolt, the player may pick up folk lore from a bard, and investigate it to find an evil mage bound to a sunken temple.
Over the course of the quest, the player unwillingly undoes the seal, forcing them to confront the antagonist in combat.
The settlement of Vengolt is a quaint and tired fishing village on the outskirts of the Roscrean isles. Situated in the region known as "Hvalcrea", the land of whales, the inhabitants of Vengolt are unknowingly living above the ruins of an ancient order of sailors and merchants, whose legacy shapes and influences the local folklore to this day. The quest aims to allow the player to investigate the myths and legends of Hvalcrea while telling a compelling story about a bound evil, awakened by the actions of the player.
This sample takes place within the world of the "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim". Beyond Skyrim makes use of a unified styleguide to streamline writing and implementation as much as possible. As with all dialogue written for the Creation Engine, NPC lines have a maximum character limit of 149, while the player has a maximum of 80 characters available. Purple marks implementation notes, while words and sentences written in orange are directions for the Voice Actors. Words marked in italics make use of Beyond Skyrim: Roscrea's constructed language, Roscreigh. In this branching dialogue, the NPC lines are written in regular, while the player's possible prompts are highlighted in bold. The NPC dialogue will follow the numbered lists downwards in any given column.
